Join us in Kenya this August!
Greater Goals is running a Volunteering for Development Expedition to Mombasa, Kenya between August 9th and August 23rd.
We will be working with the wonderful Glad’s House Kenya to deliver the "Football Extravaganza 2023", a development project and football tournament for street-connected children in Mombasa, Kenya.
Glad’s House was founded in 2006 in response to the lack of services for the most marginalised and hard-to-reach children and young people living on the streets of Mombasa. They work with children and young people, who others have given up on, children living and/or working on the streets and on dumpsites.
Greater Goals will be leading a team of volunteers to support the event and deliver some capacity-building training for local sports coaches and youth workers as well as some arts-based advocacy projects with the local children and young people.
The tournament itself is planned to run from Monday 14th August to Sunday 20th August 2023. Volunteers will deliver street sports coaching and youth work training, an interactive child rights arts advocacy project, and media support through managing social media and filming the event. Alongside recruiting some fantastic volunteers, we are seeking support, resources, and funds to make this event a success and to support an ongoing Greater Goals sports street work programme and training in Kenya.
It is an excellent opportunity to share skills and gain valuable experience in event management, sports coaching, training delivery and media production while making a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable young people. We are planning to take the volunteer team out slightly before the event on the 9th of August to prepare and get acclimatized, and stay around for a bit after the event until the 23rd of August to explore, take in some beach time and go on safari!
